We have a lot to cover in this newsletter, including the return of in person classes, information about the upcoming Las Vegas Tap Festival, and the return of the AZ Tap Club!

In Person Classes Resume Monday, May 3

All of our classes are being offered in person and via Zoom. There are a lot of new policies and procedures in place and we want to make sure everyone is aware of them so that there are no surprises. Here are some things you should know:

  • You MUST pre-register for all classes. You will not be allowed into the studio without already having pre-registered and purchased your class online. If you are taking class via Zoom, you must be registered in order to receive the Zoom link.
  • The deadline to register for all classes is 12 hours before the class is scheduled to begin. If you are not registered for class by this deadline, you will not be able to participate. This is also true for Zoom participants.
  • Zoom participants will receive the link for their class via email approximately 2-4 hours before the class is scheduled to begin.
  • Masks MUST be worn covering the mouth and nose at all times in the building including while dancing.
  • Please arrive no earlier than 10 minutes prior to the start of your class. If you arrive earlier, you will be asked to wait outside. The lobby will not be open and available for early arrivals.
  • You MUST complete a health screening when you arrive at our studio. This will be conducted at the front door and will include questions about your current health, recent travel, and possible contact with others, and a temperature check. If you do not pass this screening, you will be asked to leave. If you think you might not pass this screening, we recommend that you either cancel your class registration or take the class via Zoom.
  • Late-comers will not be admitted to class. We will not take time away from class to perform health screening for late-comers.
  • All students must have a current signed Release of Liability form on file. Please complete this form and email it to the studio before your first class.
  • There are hand sanitizer dispensers located throughout the studio. Once you have been cleared to enter the studio, please sanitize your hands.
  • No more signing in! We are trying to limit the amount of “touching” that happens in the studio. Students will be checked into class on the computer only.
  • Students are asked to limit the items they bring with them to the studio to their tap shoes, small personal items (keys, wallet, small purse), and a water bottle. Each student will have a small plastic bin (14” X 10” X 3”) in which to place their personal items to keep them separate from the other students’ belongings. These bins will be sanitized after each class.
  • Come dressed and prepared to dance. Our restroom is open for restroom use only, not for changing.
  • In person class sizes are limited to 8 people maximum. Please space yourself at least 8-10 feet from other students during class.
  • Please leave within 5 minutes of the end of your class. We will need to sanitize the studio in preparation for the next class.
  • We are trying to limit the use of paper and pens in our studio. There will not be studio brochures and class schedules available at the studio and we ask that your complete your Release of Liability at home and then email it to us.
  • Please bring your own water bottle. There will not be any cups available and the water cooler is off-limits due to the risk of transmission.

For In Person Participants

Release of Liability

All in person participants will need to have a current Release of Liability form on file. Please download this form, sign it, date it, and then email it to [email protected]Failure to do so may result in you being turned away from class. We are trying to keep things touchless and paperless to limit the risk of transmitting all illnesses. Please do not bring paper copies or expect to be able to sign this release at the studio.

We are excited to welcome you back to the studio. Even though mask mandates have been loosened in various places, there is still a mask mandate in place for the city of Tempe. We will be requiring that all in person participants wear a mask while in the studio. Please make sure that the mask covers your nose and mouth. In case you’re looking for the best mask to wear while dancing, Bloch Dancewear has a mask available that is specifically for this purpose. These masks are available through the Bloch World website, DiscountDance.com, and Amazon.com. I’m guessing they may also be available at some of our local dance supply stores (Body Language and Dee’s Dancewear) but I have not confirmed whether they are carrying these face masks or not.

We also wanted to let you know that some of our in person classes are filling up or full. If you are registered for a class and you are not going to make it, please let us know so we can open your slot for someone else. Classes that are full or almost full are:

  • Tap Level 2.7 Mondays at 7 pm
  • Tap Level 2.4 Tuesdays at 11 am
  • Tap Level 3 Tuesdays at 7 pm
  • Never-2-Late Part 1 Thursdays at 5:30 pm

On the flip side of that, we have a couple of classes that do not have anyone registered or only have 1 person. These classes may be cancelled. Ideally we would like to have 3 people registered for a class to happen. You will be notified via email if your class is cancelled due to low enrollment. Classes that currently have low enrollment numbers are:

  • Tap Level 2.1 Wednesdays at 7 pm
  • Tap Level 2.4 Thursdays at 7 pm

For ZOOM Participants

If you are registered to take classes via Zoom, watch your inbox for the link. If you are registered for a morning class, we will be sending out the link the night before. If you are registered for an evening class, the link will be sent out that afternoon. Even though registration for these class closes 12 hours in advance, we kindly request that you make sure you are registered at least 24 hours in advance, especially for morning classes. It will make things much easier for us.

Native New Yorker, Anthony Lo Cascio, is the first American to earn a standing role as an NYC cast member in “Tap Dogs”. He has performed and taught in all 50 states and a few other countries, made various TV appearances, as well as opened shows for many greats including Stevie Wonder.

Teaching, performing & choreographing is truly Anthony’s life passion and the combination of these things led him to the unexpected birth of his own tap company. Once taking on the role of Artistic Director for #Taplife Company, he started producing original shows & music videos as well as mentoring young tap dancers all over the country.

Anthony’s current projects are not only dance related as he has a keen interest in technological developments that can enhance the dance studio industry. He recently became a published author with his wife, Staci and is excited of the prospect of co-authoring a cookbook as well.
