In Person Classes Still On Hold
We will not be making any decisions about reopening to in-person classes until we know when we will be allowed to reopen. In the meantime, the Arizona Department of Health Services has been posting guidelines for what will be required for gyms and fitness facilities to re-open. They are very clear that these are still in the draft stage, but as of today some of the requirements are as follows:
● Implement and enforce physical distancing precautions that maintain more than 6 feet between individuals.
● Operate with 25% or less occupancy and capacity based on the permitted fire code occupant load.
● Close communal spaces and common areas where people are likely to congregate and interact. Do not allow guests to wait or linger in waiting areas, locker rooms, service areas, break rooms, or lobbies.
● Implement temperature checks or symptom screening at the door for all guests.
● Mandate the use of masks/cloth face coverings for all guests while at the facility.
● Arrange for touch-less check-ins and transactions.
● Require online or phone pre-bookings or reservations for fitness classes.
● Do not conduct back-to-back fitness classes. It is recommended that no less than 15 minutes elapses between classes to allow for full sanitation and to prevent crowding from participants entering/exiting the area.
● Time between classes is needed to allow for the air to recirculate and for staff to thoroughly clean spaces and equipment between classes and provide proper ventilation.
● Provide lines/markings on fitness class floors to clearly demonstrate where guests should stand to ensure physical distancing.
● Offer virtual or outdoor classes where feasible.
● Post signage at entrances about how to stop the spread of COVID-19, properly wash hands and practice other protective measures, as well as advising those with symptoms of illness to not enter.
● Post signage at entrances about rules for the facility, and ensure that all patrons are notified by email or other contact methods of new rules and changes in rules.
● Increase the circulation of outdoor air as much as possible by opening windows and doors.
● Where possible, implement one-way traffic for entrance to and egress from the facility.
● Require guests to bring their own water bottles and water.
● Provide adequate supplies to support healthy hygiene behaviors, including soap, hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol, disinfecting wipes, tissues, and no-touch trash cans.
● Wipe any pens, counters, or hard surfaces between each use, including after use by the customer.
Once they have finalized the requirements, we will need to submit an application outlining how we will be following these guidelines. Our application will need to be approved by the state before we can reopen.
ZOOM Classes Cancelled
After announcing that our next session would not be in-person, most people either dropped their classes or asked for the pre-recorded virtual classes instead. As a result, none of our Zoom classes had enough people registered and I have opted to cancel these classes for this session.
Before cancelling these classes, however, I purchased a Zoom subscription so that I could hold classes that last more than 40 minutes. I would hate to have this subscription go to waste, so I will be offering occasional Zoom classes. As of today, I am planning on holding a mid-session check-up class for each of the virtual classes during the week of August 31. This will give our virtual students a chance to ask questions and will also give us a chance to socialize a bit. I will also have a Zoom wrap-up class at the end of the session for the virtual classes. If you are registered for any of our pre-recorded virtual classes, look for details in your emails on these Zoom classes.
In addition to the Zoom meetings for our virtual classes, I may also use my Zoom account to host an occasional Tappy Hour. These will be an opportunity for our students to get together, maybe learn a new step or routine, and say hello to each other. Stay tuned to future emails and social media for details on when these will be happening!

We Still Have Shoes for Sale
Bloch Audeo Tap Jason Samuels Smith Tap Shoe
We still have some Bloch Audeo Taps (great shoe for beginners) and Jason Samuels Smith Tap Shoes (great for our Level 2 and up tap dancers).
The Audeo Tap Shoe runs slightly small. Most people will need to purchase a shoe that is 1/2 sizes larger than their street shoe size. We currently have Audeo Taps in the following ladies sizes: 5.5, 6, 6.5, 7, 7.5, 10.5, 11, 11.5. We are selling these shoes for $69.99 plus tax (These shoes normally cost $86).
The women’s Jason Samuels Smith Shoe runs small. Most women will need to purchase a shoe that is 1 – 1.5 sizes larger than their street shoe size. The sizes we have available are: 5, 5.5, 7.5, 11.5, 12. We also have 1 pair of men’s Jason Samuels Smith Tap Shoes in a size 11. The men’s version runs big, so the 11 would probably fit a man who wears a 12 – 12.5 street shoe. We are selling these shoes for $159.99 plus tax (normally $190).
If you are interested in trying on any of these shoes, please email Mary at [email protected] to make an appointment.
T-Shirt Contest Finalists
And now the moment you’ve all been waiting for! We have our 3 finalists in our T-Shirt Design Contest. Below are the 3 ideas that I felt were the best. For the purposes of this posting, you will see a mock-up for each of the 3 designs to give you a general idea of what was submitted. You should vote based on the slogan and the general idea of the concept, not what is presented here. The final design, including colors, will be done by a professional graphic artist and may vary from what is shown here, but the general idea will stay the same. By the way, I believe we are limited to 3 print colors, so all of these designs will need to be redone in order to adjust the colors appropriately. The color and design of the t-shirt on which the design is printed will depend on what the t-shirt company has in stock.
The 3 finalists are:

Voting closes on Friday, August 7. We will announce the winner and the name of the designer on August 15 and then the T-Shirts will be available to order for approximately 2 weeks. T-Shirts will be shipped in early September.

Mary,
Zoom Mid-session check up class and Zoom wrap up class, and the occasional Tappy hour will all be great. And I like the mask, even if for only a fun memorable item. 🙂
Hoping masks will not be in our future life.
Oh yay! I guess I must have read your other emails wrong, I’m glad there is a new Tap 1 class. I’m going to sign up right now 🙂
I haven’t received your email newsletter for the past two months (July and August) so I wasn’t aware of the potential Zoom classes or the newest virtual session. 🙁 …Think I still have two prepaid classes left too.
