Here’s the latest of what’s happening at Wall-2-Wall Tap Dance Center

Update from Mary Wall:

Thank you to everyone for your cards, prayers, and well wishes. I am recovering on schedule, but it is a slow process and I still have a long way to go. If things continue on schedule, I should be able to put weight on the leg and walk again sometime in October. Until this happens, I am also unable to drive, so it is extremely difficult for me to come to the studio. My house is not wheelchair accessible and getting in and out of the house and car is not easy. Because of this, I have decided that I will not return to teaching next session. I had considered teaching a class or two from my wheelchair with the help of someone who could demonstrate, but I don’t want to do anything that might jeopardize the healing process. Once I can transport myself to and from the studio, I will return in a managerial capacity. So you will be seeing me around next session, just not as a teacher. I plan to resume teaching with the January-February 2020 Session. The good news is that Raine and Marla will continue to teach the Never-2-Late and Tap Level 1 classes for me and I have hired a new teacher who is able to teach some Level 2 and Level 3 classes next session.

We are Closed Labor Day

Monday, September 2 is Labor Day and Wall-2-Wall Tap Dance Center will be closed in observation of the holiday. There will be no classes on this day. The regular class schedule will resume on Tuesday, September 3.

Credits Owed from August – September Session

Because the August – September Session had so many cancelled classes, there are a lot of students who are owed credits or refunds. Over the next few weeks, Mary will be reviewing all customer accounts from the current session to determine if you are owed anything. Please be patient, as there are many customer accounts that will require a review. Mary will be contacting people individually via email in order to settle any discrepancies. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

October-November Session

Our current session will run until Friday, September 20. We will then have a 2 week break before the next session begins. Our next session will run from Monday, October 7 through Friday, November 22. The class schedule and registration for the next session is now available. Please visit our Class Information page for more details.

We are sad to report that Jenefer Miller will not be able to continue the Tuesday night Level 2-3 class next session due to a scheduling conflict, so that class will not be on the schedule in October. We have hired a new teacher who is available to teach two Level 2 and two Level 3 classes each week for this next session. Due to the fact that Mary will not be teaching for this session, the Level 2 classes will not be divided into their usual sub-levels. Instead, the Level 2 class will cover things from across the sub-levels. This class will possibly cover some soft shoe, some waltz clogs, and a variety of time steps.

Welcome, Sheri Mendelsohn!

Wall-2-Wall Tap Dance Center would like to welcome Sheri Mendelsohn to our teaching staff! Sheri started dancing at the age of three and never looked back. By the time she was sixteen, she was teaching and dancing professionally. Her love of tap led her to New York City where she became a Rockette and performed at the famous Radio City Music Hall. She had an opportunity to work with great choreographers, such as Peter Generro, Charles Kelley, and many others.

After leaving New York, she ran her own studio in Maryland for over twenty years.  Some of her students went on to become professional dancers on Broadway and some also became Rockettes. She and her students had an opportunity to tour China and her dancers were broadcast on Shanghai Television.

Sheri will be teaching Level 2 and Level 3 classes while Mary recuperates. We hope this is just the beginning for Sheri and that she will continue to be a member of the Wall-2-Wall family for a long time to come.

6th Annual Fitness Frenzy

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and Wall-2-Wall Tap Dance Center will be hosting the 6th Annual Fitness Frenzy Benefiting Arizona Camp Sunrise and Sidekicks on Sunday, September 22. Classes will begin at 8 am and will run through 12 noon. Arizona Camp Sunrise and Sidekicks are programs for children who have or have had cancer, their siblings, and their families. All programs are provided free of charge and are run by volunteers. This event is held every year in memory of Caroline Vosseller, who was a long-time volunteer at the camp and who was also a tap dance student of Mary’s. Caroline lost her own battle with cancer in 2013. Many of you might know her daughter Erin, who is a member of the HeartBeat Tap Ensemble and who helps out at the front desk from time to time.

This year, we will be offering 4 different fitness classes:

8 am: Start Off with a Stretch with Karen Battaglini
9 am: GROOV3 with Autumn Torres (GROOV3 is a hot new dance fitness class)
10 am: Pound with Jessica Haberle
11 am: Cool It Down with Liisa Walimaa

We are asking for a suggested donation of $10 per class. You are welcome to donate more if you’d like. If you don’t feel like working out, that’s ok, you don’t have to… you can just donate!

In addition to the classes, representatives from Arizona Camp Sunrise and Sidekicks will be on hand to sell merchandise for a minimum donation, including their famous CANCER SUCKS gear.

Registration for the Fitness Frenzy is now available. You can CLICK HERE TO DONATE AND/OR RESERVE YOUR SPOT IN CLASS.

Miller and Ben Shoe Order

We traditionally place a group order for Miller and Ben Tap Shoes each year in August or September. People who order their shoes through the studio receive a discount on the shoes plus tap installation and shipping is free. It works out to be a pretty significant savings. Due to Mary’s injury, we are having to delay our group order this year until she is well enough to help with fittings and ship shoes back and forth to New York. Avi Miller and Ofer Ben have kindly offered to hold the group pricing for us until December. Once Mary returns to the studio, she will begin taking orders. This will probably be late October or early November.

Phoenix Tap Fest

Save the dates! Phoenix Tap Fest is back and will be happening January 3-4, 2020. We will have more details about this year’s festival as they become available. Keep a look out for details on faculty, classes, and class passes!

Big Announcement Coming Soon
