COVID-19 Update
Regarding in-person classes
I was in the process of preparing a different update, one that included information about the resumption of in-person classes on August 3, when Governor Ducey held a press conference in which it was announced that the closure of bars, theaters, water parks, and gyms (including fitness centers) is being extended indefinitely. We are classified as a fitness center, so we are required to remain closed to in-person classes. The governor stated that the continuation of these closures would be evaluated every 2 weeks, with the next evaluation scheduled for August 10. It is difficult to plan anything when so much is unknown.
I have spent the last 24 hours trying to best determine how to proceed. I was working towards a way to offer in-person and live classes via Zoom concurrently, so I feel that the best course of action right now is to change the classes that were to be in-person to classes that will meet via Zoom. I will be changing these classes on the Wellness Living site this weekend to indicate that they will meet via Zoom and to expand the class capacity, which is currently set at 6. I will also purchase the Zoom plan that will allow our classes to last more than 40 minutes. For those of you who are registered for in-person classes, you will automatically be enrolled in these Zoom classes. Zoom class participants will be sent the Zoom link for your class on the day of your class. If you do not wish to take these classes via Zoom, please email me and let me know which of the following choices you prefer:
1 - Substitute the live Zoom classes for our virtual classes. These are prerecorded classes with the same content as what we will be covering during the Zoom classes.
2 - Save your classes passes for when we can actually offer in-person classes again.
I will not make any plans as to when we will resume in-person classes until I know that we are allowed to re-open. If August 10 comes around and we are allowed to reopen, I will figure out then when and how in-person classes will resume. I know many of you are anxious to get back in the studio, but for public health purposes, this is probably for the best. I have had a lot of people tell me that they cannot do Zoom or Virtual classes, so there really isn’t another option for you at this time, and I’m sorry about that. Please be patient. There will be a time when we can dance together again!
And a side note about this… As hard as it is to run my business with virtual classes, it has opened up my business to students who would not be able to take class with me otherwise. I have former students who had moved away from the Phoenix area taking classes with me again. And I have some new students who found me over the internet from far-off places. I have one student in North Carolina who has purchased several sets of my classes. And I just sold a set of virtual classes to someone who lives in the Philippines! Wall-2-Wall Tap Dance Center is now able to offer classes world-wide! Welcome to all of my new students!
I want to thank everyone for rallying around my business. The outpouring of generosity has been overwhelming. Between the GoFundMe campaign, the sales of class passes, and the t-shirt fundraiser, we have enough to keep us going for a few more months. In addition to that, I have been notified by the Arizona Foundation and Maricopa County that we have been awarded a grant and that I should be receiving a check in 4-6 weeks. This grant should give us enough to keep things going through the end of the year. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!
New T-Shirt Fundraiser Contest!
Did you order a T-Shirt? I just spoke with our friends at ThinkPro and they are set to print our shirts either today or Monday with shipping scheduled for early next week. So watch your mailboxes! You might consider sharing pictures of you in your shirt on social media when you get yours. Be sure to tag Wall-2-Wall Tap Dance Center and ThinkPro when you do!
We had so much fun with the first T-Shirt Fundraiser, that we have decided to do another one. But this time, we want to involve you in the design process! We have decided to hold a contest to determine the design of the shirt! Here is how it will work:
1 - This weekend, we will open things up for idea submissions via Facebook. If you are not on Facebook, you can email your ideas to me at [email protected]. Please include specifics about the wording on the shirt and any design ideas you might have including colors, graphics, etc.
2 - On Saturday, August 1, we will announce the 3 finalists via e-mail and on social media.
3 - From the time of the announcement through Friday, August 7, people will be able to vote for their favorite design idea. Details of how to vote will be shared via email and social media at that time.
4 - On or about August 15, we will announce the winner. The person who submitted the winning design idea will get a free t-shirt with their design and a 5 Class Flex-Pass.
5 - Once the winner has been announced, we will begin taking orders. You will have a 2 week period to place your orders and then shirts will be shipped in early September.
Remember, these t-shirt fundraiser not only help us, but they also help another local business, ThinkPro.
Put those thinking caps on and send me your ideas!

Mary,
I’m so happy to hear the news that I could just cry. Worst part for me has been missing tap classes & that it may not happen again. So grateful for all you’ve done to keep us together!
Tap classes by Zoom would be great!
Mary — What a “challenging” year! How wonderful to hear, though, that you’re reaching/teaching far and wide. Can’t wait to see you and dance in the studio again.
I am behind you Mary! Do what you need to do for your business. Will
Look forward to zooming! Thx for all the extra work and getting creative.
Glad to know you’re still going strong.
So glad to hear that you are able to expand your impact to other parts of the world!
Can’t wait to wear my t-Shirt to our first zoom class! I have had other classes on zoom and it works just fine. Just have to push all the furniture out of the way. 😍😍
These are crazy times, but glad to see that you have the support! I finally caved in and got a portable tap dance floor for home, and am totally enjoying the prerecorded classes! Looking forward to the day we can all tap together at the studio!
