Happy October!
Fall is in the air! The temperatures are cooler and the days are a little bit shorter. At Wall-2-Wall Tap Dance Center, we are gearing up for our Oct/Nov Session, which will be our last session of 2019. Please read through this entire post for information about classes and happenings at our studio.
Update from Mary
Monday, September 30 marked 9 weeks since my surgery. I am going to Physical Therapy 3 times a week for range of motion work on my knee and to ease back into being weight bearing on the injured leg. I am currently walking with crutches and allowed to put about 50 lbs of weight on the bad leg. Next week I will begin working on putting more weight on the leg and will gradually increase it until I am able to put all of my weight on the leg. My physical therapist says that for some people this may take 2-3 sessions and for other people, it could take 2-3 weeks. The good news is, I am able to drive again. The bad news is that because I’m not 100% weight bearing yet, I’m having some issues going up and down steps and curbs. Even though I can now drive myself, I’m having a hard time getting myself in and out of places that require stepping up and/or down a curb. This should be much easier once I am able to put more weight on the leg. Once I’ve mastered steps, you should be seeing me around the studio on a regular basis.
Again, I would like to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers, and well wishes as I recover. The outpouring of support has been overwhelming. I have tried to reply and thank everyone for your cards, emails, and social media messages. If I have missed responding to any of them, I apologize for the over site. Please know that it is all deeply appreciated.
Next Session Starts Monday, October 7!
The October/November 2019 Session will begin on Monday, October 7. If you need to register, you can do so online. If you’d prefer to register in person, you can do so when you come to your first class. The studio will be closed until classes start on October 7.

Fitness Frenzy Recap
Thank you to everyone who came out for our 6th Annual Fitness Frenzy Benefiting Arizona Camp Sunrise and Sidekicks. After totaling up everything (classes, merchandise, and donations collected) we raised $800 total! A huge thank you to the instructors who donated their time and talents. We could not do this without you!
SAVE THE DATE: The 7th Annual Fitness Frenzy is scheduled for Sunday, September 20, 2020!
Morton Gould’s Tap Dance Concerto
The MusicaNova Orchestra will be performing Morton Gould’s Tap Dance Concerto on Sunday, October 20 at 2 pm at the Musical Instrument Museum (MIM). Our very own Jenefer Miller will be the featured tap dancer for this performance!
The Tap Dance Concerto was written in 1952 by American composer Morton Gould. The tap dance part is written as a musical chart for a percussion instrument, so there is no traditional choreography for the piece. Each tap dancer who performs it creates their own choreography while staying true to the rhythms that were composed by Gould. Jenefer has been working hard on this performance and it would be great if we had a wonderful showing of Wall-2-Wall Tap Dance Center students there to support her!
Tickets for this performance are available at the MIM. Click here to purchase tickets.
Wall-2-Wall Celebrates 6 Years!
We opened our doors and held our first classes in November of 2013. We are planning on celebrating our 6th Anniversary on Saturday, November 23. Celebration plans are still in the works so we don’t have any details to share with you yet. Look for more information in the coming weeks and in next month’s newsletter.
Phoenix Tap Fest
We hope you are saving the dates! The 2020 Phoenix Tap Fest is scheduled for January 3-4, 2020. More information including faculty line-up and class schedule should be available soon! Wall-2-Wall Tap Dance Center will be selling class passes for the Phoenix Tap Festival again this year.
Dorrance Dance at the Mesa Arts Center
Michelle Dorrance and Dorrance Dance will be performing at the Mesa Arts Center on Wednesday, April 1, 2020. Michelle Dorrance is one of the most sought after tap dancers of her generation and “one of the most imaginative tap choreographers working today” (The New Yorker). A 2015 MacArthur Fellow, 2014 Alpert Award Winner, and 2013 Jacob’s Pillow Dance Award Winner, Michelle performs, teaches and choreographs throughout the world.
We have secured a block of tickets for this performance at a discounted price. Tickets are normally $60 plus service charges, but if you purchase your tickets through Wall-2-Wall Tap Dance Center, they are just $50 each. We have sold most of the tickets in our block, but we still have a few left. If you are interested in purchasing tickets, please see Mary at the studio.
Miller and Ben Shoe Order
Thank you for waiting so patiently for our 2019 shoe order. Once Mary is back at the studio on a regular basis, she will begin taking orders for shoes. This should be around the 3rd or 4th week of October. If you already own a pair of Miller and Ben’s, you might consider leaving them at the studio for others to try on. The more variety of sizes we have available for people to try, the better. It really helps people who are new to this brand of shoes determine their correct size and it prevents us from having to ship pairs of shoes back and forth to New York. The sooner everyone knows their size and can place their order, the sooner we can place the group order with Miller and Ben, and the sooner we will get our shoes. Because we will be placing our order so late, we will probably not be receiving any custom shoes we order until February or March. Non-custom shoes typically arrive 2-3 weeks after the group order is placed.
In Case You Missed It
Just in case you missed it… Wall-2-Wall Tap Dance Center won the 2019 Screenvision Media Corner Stories contest. During the month of September, a video about our studio was shown in movie theatres across the country as part of the pre-movie entertainment feature.

I saw the video at the last movie I went to and am so glad because now I’m signed up for lessons. I’ve never done anything like this before!
We’re excited to meet you next week when classes start!

Well your recovery is matching my own although for a different injury. Hope to be back in class in 2020. Be faithful to the physical therapy despite the pain.
